Today is Wesak day, a day to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Buddha- our great master in life.
During this day, you can see many Buddhists paying respect to Buddha in monasteries. Sometimes, we might hear people mention, “Wesak day Buddhist”. People address themselves as Buddhist and they are only showing face during Wesak day. What a waste! Why not be a Buddhist who understand the teaching of Buddha?
Sometimes, you might see people bringing some fruits to monasteries and pray to Buddha by keep murmuring, “Buddha, please bless me with wealth, fame, power, strike lottery, happiness in my family, long life, filial piety of my children, everything in my life goes smooth…..”
It’s similar to a barter trade that “I give you fruits, in return, please give me………” and let’s contemplate about Buddha’s life, Buddha let go his kingdom, all material wealth in palace to pursuit the truth of suffering and the path to relieve from suffering. Why are we keep asking for things that Buddha let go?
Buddha is showing the path for us to relieve from suffering. We need to walk the path by ourselves. There is no shortcut! Your destiny is on your hand… Keep walking or not, its all depend on you…
“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”
Keep walking the path, the more you go deeper, the more you are willing to let go… the more you are going to enjoy peace and calm in life. Let’s shine your peace, calm and happiness to your surrounding!
Happy Wesak Day!
