Whenever there is an opportunity to help others, we must say YES and “Grab” it, do not hesitate and keep thinking.
If we keep thinking and evaluating, the chances for us to contribute to others are really slim.
Our mind keep changing, thought after thought, we’ve a tendency to postpone to do good deeds with plenty of excuses; there are plenty of charity homes, a lot of misfortune people, genuine or not?, we can help them anytime we want…
However, nothing can be realized if we never take any action. Thought will be remain in our mind only.
From my personal experience, sometimes, even though you want to be a volunteer to offer help, it’s not necessary you can make it, it might be obstacles as the volunteer list is full, your schedule crash, something happen last-minute, you are sick and others.
It’s so blessed to give instead of to receive. We are not losing anything when we help others but we gain back a lot of invisible wealth; love, compassion, letting ego, generous heart, broader mindset, gratitude, contentment, selfless, patience and…..
As such, do it now instead of keep thinking, waiting, considering…..
This life is too short, whenever good thought arisen, take action to light up yourself and others! Do not delay!
Remember at the end of your life, you are not taking any worldly wealth with you but your good or bad karma.
There is a story which is the best to describe on our changing mind when doing good deeds.
There was a businessman who was drowning in the river. He called out to a fisherman in a boat.
He told the fisherman, ‘Please save me, if you save me, I will give you my entire wealth.’ The fisherman took him in his boat without saying anything.
As soon as he got into the boat, the businessman said ‘Look, I can’t give you my entire wealth, but I will give you half of it. I don’t want anything, but my wife and kids will not let me give the entire sum; I have to leave something for them too.’
The fisherman just smiled, he did not say anything.
As the boat was reaching the shore, the businessman again said, ‘Look, if I give you half, what will I do? I have given the other half to my wife and kids. I can give you a quarter, maybe’.
Then as the boat came nearer to the shore, the sum kept reducing further. As soon as they came to the shore, the businessman gave the fisherman $5.
The fisherman said, ‘What, you are worth only $5?’
The businessman said, ‘How much does it take to bring me from there to here? It costs only $3; I have given you more than it’s worth.’
The mind changes! When you want to do a good thing, you should do it immediately, otherwise the mind changes.
I read this story from His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shanker, the wisdom teaching from Guruji.
