The empty can…

Be mindful on our speech, not to be "Empty can"...

Be mindful on our speech, not to be like “Empty can”, only make noise and no content…

Have you ever notice that when your water bottle is half empty, you can hear noise when you shake the bottle?

When the water bottle is full of water, no matter how you shake the bottle, there is no noise at all.

Do you love to put your coin in the saving box?

When you put the coin in the empty saving box, you can hear clearly the sound.

When you put the coin in the half empty saving box, you still can hear the sound.

When the saving box is full, you can’t hear any sound.

This make us to further contemplate about the behavior/ character of a person.

Sometimes, we might meet up with a person who love to show off their intelligent, how clever they are…they might ask a lot of questions which are not meaningful or benefit to others.

Sometimes, we might also meet up with another type of person who love to talk over and over again without any content. Nothing you can learn from them.

Sometimes, we might also meet up with another of person who love to make a lot of noise, giving a lot of comment and feedback to attract attention, however non of the feedback or comment can be applied practically.

In Malay Language, we addressed all this person as “Tin Kosong” (The empty can)

A person full of wisdom or knowledge, they’ll keep silence  and open their mouth whenever necessary, they are down to earth and humble. Whatever they say will bring benefit to others and not only themselves.

It’s just like the saving box, when it’s full, there is no noise at all.

Be mindful on which type of person you want to be, ask questions which can bring benefit to all beings, say something which can also bring benefit and happiness to others.

If not, be silence.

The wise ones fashioned speech with their thought, sifting it as grain is sifted through a sieve.

  1. I attempt to ask these questions of myself as I write a blog post, some posts never get published because of this.
